And other delicious things
Do you remember back when you could listen to the radio and dance your heart out, simply because it felt so damned good to be alive?
Let's be clear, when I was in third grade I got my first radio and played it every moment I got to myself in my bedroom. I would dance and sing my heart out for hours. It was a gateway to something bigger, more colorful, more packed with stories and feelings I sensed were "out there," but too grown up to really understand.
It was the music itself that transported (and saved) me from complete dominion in my family.
Social media and news are carefully engineered to hook our thoughts and feelings. Art does the opposite.
And I'm a huge fan.
Art Car Parades
Yesterday I met up with a friend and we talked about gluten, Art Car parades, and the life force that flows through unadulterated creativity. I do appreciate some fine art, but there's something so visceral, so alive about creativity itself, that I'm convinced it's what the world needs now in order to transport us into that state where we can not only survive the painful chaos, but channel LIFE into our bodies, our relationships, our communities.
How delicious is Gold Medalist Alysa Liu's MacArthur Park?
Liu quit ice skating at 16 because of all the rules, the pressure, having every bite of food and skating moment measured and controlled. After she took a few years off, she returned to the sport on her terms, because it lit her up deep inside. She discovered how to tune out the noise and find her creative joy.
I love these moments when I can release all of the intensity and the negative emotions and just embrace a part of a piece of art that I love that reminds me of why life is worth living.
Much love,
Lori
