Why I'm Not Panicking About America

It’s been a fast, disorienting few weeks for many people. When things move this quickly, I find it helps to pause, widen the lens, and remember who we actually are.

You all live all over the globe, but since what happens anywhere affects us everywhere, I'm sharing:

We are not an orderly, obedient, lockstep country.

We Americans are wild as hell

We’re messy. Diverse. Contradictory. Loud. Creative. Immigrant-rooted. Myth-making. Dream-addicted. Suspicious of authority. Prone to fantasy and reinvention. We argue, remix, dissent, meme, improvise, and refuse to stay neatly in our lanes.

Authoritarianism depends on uniformity, obedience, and silence.

That has never really been our vibe.

We literally started as a rebellion against that energy 250 years ago — and while we’ve failed our own ideals many times, that rebellious current is alive and well today.

And we’ll keep resurfacing in strange, inconvenient, beautiful ways.

Even if platforms change.

Even if tools disappear.

Our wild ass, freedom loving American spirit doesn’t.

If any people knows how to shrug off imposed narratives, bend without breaking, and re-invent from the inside out — it’s Americans.

Not because we’re perfect, far from it.

But because we’re diverse.

We came here, our ancestors came here, with hope in our hearts, believing for a better life.

Seeing these tens of thousands of people peacefully demonstrating and speaking out as only Americans do, gives me great hope and pride in our wild, mostly beautiful, unabashed hearts.

If you’re feeling disoriented by how quickly things are moving,

unsure of your next step, it may be time to step back from social media, move your body, and come home to yourself.

Clarity doesn’t come from more input. It comes from settling, listening, and remembering what you already know.

That wisdom is there. Act from it.

Much love,

Lori
